Recording Overview

Instruments are filed for recording and are generally public records such as deeds, liens, and judgments. Many of these instruments deal with the conveyance of ownership in real property.


Recording Requirements

  • The County Clerk's Office requests a minimum of 1" at the top of the first page and 4" at the bottom of the last page for recording purposes.
  • Any instrument conveying real property must be signed by the grantor and be notarized (or be signed by two witnesses)
  • Any instrument conveying real property must have each grantee's mailing address in or attached to the document.

Cattle Brands/Marks

Each person who has cattle, hogs, sheep, or goats shall have and may use one or more earmarks, brands, tattoos, or electronic devices. These must be recorded with the County Clerk of the county in which the animals are located. Brands and Marks may be recorded in multiple counties and need to be re-recorded every 10 years.

Military Discharge

Veterans are encouraged to record discharge papers with the County Clerk for safekeeping and proof of service for V.A. benefits.
